People rarely arrive asking about their temples, and they rarely realise how much their jowls are driven by what is happening above them. Both are areas where an experienced practitioner sees the cause rather than the symptom. At ELM Aesthetics these treatments are carried out by Melody Steel, a Nurse Prescriber with over 19 years’ experience and a background in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery unit at St James’s Hospital.

Temple filler

The temples hollow with age as fat and bone recede, and the effect is subtle but significant: the face takes on a peanut shape, the outer brow drops, and the eyes look more tired. Restoring volume here with a small amount of filler smooths the transition from forehead to cheekbone, gently lifts the outer brow and tail of the eye, and makes the whole face look fuller and more youthful in a way nobody can quite put their finger on.

Jowl treatment

Jowls form when the tissues of the lower face descend and gather either side of the chin, creating a heavy, broken jawline. Filler cannot remove jowls, but placed structurally in front of and beneath them it restores the support that has been lost, blends the line of the jaw and makes them far less noticeable. It is often combined with jawline filler. Melody will also assess whether the true cause is midface deflation, in which case cheek filler may do more for your jowls than treating them directly.

What happens on the day

After assessment, treatment is carried out with a cannula from a single entry point per area, placing structural filler deep, where it provides support. The filler contains anaesthetic. Results are visible immediately, and settle over two weeks.

Aftercare and limitations

Expect swelling for two to five days; temple treatment can occasionally cause a brief headache. Avoid pressure on the areas, strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat for 48 hours. Filler supports and blends; it does not lift significantly lax skin, and where jowls are pronounced the honest answer may involve tightening treatments such as HIFU or a surgical opinion. Results vary from person to person and typically last 12 to 18 months. Prices from £225 per area, confirmed at consultation.

Your questions answered

Will temple filler change my face shape?

Subtly, yes — that is the point. Hollow temples narrow the upper face; restoring them returns a softer, more youthful oval. Done conservatively, nobody will identify what has changed.

Can filler get rid of jowls?

Filler softens and blends jowls by restoring support around them; it does not remove them. For pronounced jowls, tightening treatments or a surgical opinion may be discussed honestly.

Is temple filler safe?

The temple has important vessels and requires precise technique and anatomical knowledge, which is why it should be carried out by an experienced medical practitioner using appropriate placement.

How long do results last?

Typically 12 to 18 months in both areas.
