What polynucleotides are
Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments, derived from salmon or trout, which are highly biocompatible with human tissue. Injected into the skin, they act as a signal to fibroblasts to repair and regenerate: producing new collagen and elastin, improving hydration, calming inflammation and improving the skin’s overall quality and resilience. The effect is restorative rather than cosmetic in the usual sense — the skin becomes healthier, and looks it.
Where they are used
- Under the eyes — the most popular use. Polynucleotides improve the thin, crepey, dark under-eye skin that filler cannot safely address, and are often the better choice than tear trough filler for skin quality concerns
- Face, neck and décolleté — for overall skin quality, fine lines and dull, tired or sun-damaged skin
- Acne scarring — supporting repair and texture improvement
- Hair — injected into the scalp to support hair density, assessed individually
What to expect
A course of three sessions, two to four weeks apart, is the standard protocol; a single session gives a lighter effect. Melody uses a tailored combination of polynucleotide products selected for your skin and concern. Treatment involves a series of small superficial injections; small raised bumps are normal and settle within 24 to 48 hours. Results build gradually over six to twelve weeks as the skin regenerates, and are typically maintained with a session every six to twelve months.

Polynucleotides improve skin quality; they do not add volume, lift lax skin or relax expression lines. Results are gradual and cumulative rather than immediate, and vary from person to person. They are derived from fish, so a fish allergy needs discussing at consultation.

Are polynucleotides better than tear trough filler?
Different. Filler restores a hollow; polynucleotides improve skin quality, texture and darkness. For thin, crepey or discoloured under-eye skin they are often the safer and more appropriate choice. Melody will advise which suits you.
