Profhilo has become one of the most talked-about skin treatments of recent years, and it is also one of the most misunderstood. It is frequently described as a filler, which it is not. At ELM Aesthetics in Leeds, we now offer Profhilo for the face, neck and décolleté, and for delicate areas of the body such as the inner arms.

What Profhilo actually is

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment used for what is known as bioremodelling. Rather than adding volume or changing the shape of your face, it works on the quality of the skin itself — hydration, firmness, elasticity and texture. If your concern is that your skin looks tired, thin or crepey rather than that it has lost shape, this is the category of treatment that addresses it.

How it works

Profhilo is made using patented NAHYCO® technology, which combines two forms of hyaluronic acid in a single smooth gel, with no chemical cross-linking agents.

  • High molecular weight hyaluronic acid stays closer to the surface, drawing in and holding water. This is what produces the immediate plumping and hydrating effect, and a soft lift to the skin.
  • Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid travels deeper, where it stimulates the skin’s own fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen and elastin — gradually rebuilding the skin’s underlying structure rather than simply hydrating it.

That combination is why Profhilo is described as a remodelling treatment rather than a hydrating one. The first effect is quick; the second builds over weeks.

The BAP technique

Profhilo is injected using the Bio Aesthetic Points technique — five precise injection points on each side of the face, chosen because they allow the gel to spread evenly through the skin while avoiding key anatomical structures. Fewer injection points means less discomfort and less trauma to the skin than treatments requiring dozens of individual punctures.

Where it can be used

The face is the most common area, but Profhilo comes into its own on the neck and décolleté — thinner, more delicate skin that often shows ageing earlier than the face and responds poorly to heavier treatments. It is also used on the body, particularly the inner upper arms, where skin tends to lose firmness and texture with time.

  • Firmer, more elastic-feeling skin as collagen and elastin renew
  • A smoother, brighter, well-rested appearance to the skin

A course of two treatments four weeks apart is required for the full effect, and at ELM the fee shown covers the complete course. Small raised bumps at the injection points are normal immediately afterwards and typically settle within a few hours. Results develop gradually, and vary from person to person.

Is it right for you?

Profhilo suits skin that has lost hydration, bounce and quality — but it is not a substitute for treatments that address volume or shape, and it is not a wrinkle treatment. It often works well alongside other treatments as part of a longer-term plan for skin health.
