There is a reason clinics get busy with laser hair removal enquiries in September. Autumn is genuinely the best time of year to start a course — and if you begin now, you will be finishing around the time next summer arrives. At ELM Aesthetics on King Lane in LS17, laser hair removal is carried out by Georgia Abrams, Skin & Laser Therapist (Level 3 qualified), or by Melody Steel, Nurse Prescriber.
Why autumn is the right time to start
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle. Skin that has recently been exposed to strong sun or has picked up a tan holds more pigment too, which affects how treatment is planned and can mean postponing sessions. As the days shorten and sun exposure drops naturally, that complication largely disappears.
The second reason is simply arithmetic. A course of laser hair removal is not one appointment — it is a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart, because hair grows in cycles and each session catches the follicles that happen to be in the active growth phase at that moment. Starting in autumn gives that cycle the months it needs before summer.
What a course involves
Most people need a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, with the exact number depending on the area being treated, your hair type and colour, and how your skin responds. Sessions are generally quick, particularly for smaller areas. You will be given clear aftercare guidance each time, including advice on sun protection between sessions.
We treat a range of areas, from small facial areas through to underarms, legs, bikini and Hollywood, and larger areas such as arms — with pricing set out in full on our treatments page.
Before you book anywhere
Laser is not a one-size-fits-all treatment, and suitability depends on your skin and hair type. A patch test is an essential part of the process, not an optional extra, and any clinic that offers to skip it is cutting a corner that exists for your safety. You should also expect to be asked about your medical history, medications and any recent sun exposure — that is a good sign, not an inconvenience.
Results vary from person to person. Laser hair removal produces a significant long-term reduction in hair growth for most people rather than a guaranteed permanent removal of every hair, and occasional maintenance sessions are common.
Convenient across north Leeds
Our King Lane clinic is a short drive from Alwoodley, Moortown, Adel, Roundhay, Shadwell and Gledhow, with parking on site and late evening appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays — which tends to suit a treatment course that needs regular return visits.
